Jose Nambo Named as Assistant Principal
![]() Jose Nambo has been named assistant principal of Frank Porter Graham Dual-Language Magnet Elementary. Jose Nambo is currently serving as our district’s ESL Coordinator and is very familiar with the dual-language program as he spent six years as the district’s Dual-Language Coordinator. Mr. Nambo also served as an ESL teacher in Wake County and a classroom teacher in Chicago. He earned his Master’s Degree in 2004 from Columbia College and his Bachelor’s Degree in 1996 from the University of Illinois. Mr. Nambo will begin in his new role on July 1. |
Parent Brainstorming Ideas for Programs at FPG Magnet
Here are the brainstormed ideas from parents who gathered in mid-March to share ideas about community building, traditions, events and fundraisers for FPG Magnet School. These ideas will be reviewed by the planning team and a parent subgroup to drive school activities in the coming year. |
Student Mixer Friday, April 12th
Student Mixer at Frank Porter Graham Dual Language Magnet School April 12, 2013 4:30-6:00pm Please come to meet other families and staff! We will focus this experience on our common areas and leave classroom experiences for June 1. We plan to have students rotate through these stations every 15 minutes by grade level, culminating on the playground for popsicles. Jump in whenever you arrive. |

Principal Bivens Interviewed on WCHL
On March 11th Emily Bivens was interviewed on WCHL. She discussed the Dual Language Magnet program coming to FPG in 2013-2014. |
"Share Your Voice" Night/Noche de "Compartir su voz"
Parents of FPG DL students from FPG and thsoe transferring from Carrboro and Scroggs, came together to brainstorm about events at FPG next year. topics covered include fund raising, "branding" the school, meetings and how to best support all parents. |
Students Vote on New Mascot and a New Color
DL Students at FPG and DL students transferring to FPG from Carrboro and Scroggs vote and selected a new mascot and a color to complient FPG's gold and maroon. The selections were a winged lion and navy blue. |
Planning Team Selected
The Planning Team members for Frank Porter Graham magnet school have been selected. An application and interview process was conducted through Human Resources. The following people will work together to make programmatic decisions for the school:
